Ireland: 2008 Greetings Stamps
The 2008 An Post Greetings series of postge stamps have been among the most colourful of stamps issued to date. Despite the prevalence of electronic forms of communication such as e-mail, e-invites and e-cards, personal messages sent through the post remain popular both with adults and children. 'Greeting' stamps are designed with this in mind and brighten up greeting cards and personal messages.
Over the years, An Post has used some of Ireland's most talented illustrators and artists to design the Greetings stamps. Steve Simpson illustrated the 2008 series.
The 2008 Greetings stamps feature a funky fabric elephant and a patchwork frog on the stamps. A cat in a hot-air balloon is used for the First Day Cover.
Date of Issue: 11 February 2008

The Penny Black was the world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system. It was issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland on 1 May, 1840, for use from 6 May of that year. All London post offices received official issues of the new stamps but other offices throughout the United Kingdom did not, continuing to accept postage payments in cash only for a period. Post offices such as those in Bath, began offering the stamp unofficially after 2 May.
This is a list of postage stamps that are especially notable in some way.
The best-known stamps:
Treskilling Yellow (Sweden)
Penny Black (Britain)
Mauritius "Post Office"
Inverted Jenny (United States)
Basel Dove (Switzerland)
British Guiana 1c magenta
Benjamin Franklin Z Grill (United States)
